Knowledge

Over the years, we’ve heard hundreds of stories about building projects. We’ve seen a few people who are proceeding with confidence and these are the projects lots of time planning with professional assistance. We’ve seen lots of people who are in over their heads. Common complaints are “we didn’t’ realize it would be so big”, or “we are way over budget and the project is late by months”, or even “we didn’t think about storage” and there is no room for – whatever – and now we need to make an addition” Its easy to avoid these pitfalls by setting clear goals and completing a thorough planning process before you start construction.

Project Management

Effective project management does not start when construction starts. It starts when you commit to a goal and begin to define that goal.

Save your health/marriage/hair and ask us about Project Management services. Fees vary based on project complexity and location. We are also happy to coach you in managing your own project.

Building Tree owner and operator, Paula Kiss (B.Sc, B.Ed) obtained her Project Management Professional certification (PMP) in 2015 from the International Project Management Institute. She can help you define plan and complete your project, making sure you love the final outcome. Setting goals and priorities is as critical, as determining a realistic timeline and budget, so be sure to get help early!

Site Specific Design

Developing a property (well) requires carefully considering the way future buildings, access routes, gardens, people, animals and natural systems will interact with each other. Solar aspect, surface and ground water, snow, wind, rain, wildlife…not to mention building codes, fire codes and local government regulation will all require attention. Its so much easier to plan for or investigate potential problem up front than to be surprised by their impacts too late in your project. If you’ve ever noticed a deck that never gets used, or front steps that are cordoned off in winter, a driveway that washes out regularly, once beautiful natural areas which now molder in shadow, streaks of mildew running down woodwork, dead or dying landscaping, then you have seen a lack of integrated, site specific design.
Familiarize your self with your land. If you don’t know the area well, ask for help in understanding the priorities and pitfall of develping on your site. Contact the Building Tree for site assessments and an in depth interview to help you clarify project prioirties and help you maximize the beauty and value you will create.
Site assessment and prioirty review $100 for the first hour and $50 for each additional hour, plus travel. (West Kootenay only).xt in here
